The Suffolk County Board of Elections is committed to encouraging voter participation, administering fair and accurate elections, regulating disclosure and limitation, and protecting the rights of voters within Suffolk’s jurisdiction.

Register To Vote

In order to Register to vote, you must:

  • be a United States citizen;
  • be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file this form (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote);
  • live at your present address at least 30 days before an election;
  • not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction and;
  • not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

How and Where to Register to Vote

  • You can register in person at Suffolk County Board of Elections or at any New York State Agency-Based voter registration center.
  • You can call our office at 631-852-4554 to request a voter application.
  • You can download a PDF version of the New York State Voter Registration Form.

Once the form is completed, you need to print the form, sign it and mail it.

Absentee Voting

Any REGISTERED VOTER wishing to vote by Absentee Ballot must complete both sides of the Absentee Ballot Application (available by clicking below). Here’s how it works:

  • You must be a registered voter in Suffolk County, and you must have a valid reason to vote absentee.
  • Click on a link below to download a printable application for an Absentee Ballot.
  • Print and complete both sides of the Absentee Ballot Application, and sign it.
  • Mail the application to the Board of Elections.

  • Your completed application must be postmarked no later than the seventh day before the election. You may also hand-deliver it to the Board of Elections up until the day before the election.
  • Your application will be processed immediately.
  • If your application is validated, the Board of Elections will confirm your validation by letter, and you will receive your Absentee Ballot by mail.  (If your application is processed very close to the election date, you will simply receive the Absentee Ballot by mail without prior written notice.)
