NEW YORK GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL
Governor Hochul has pledged her support to Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc and his team to continue their efforts in fighting the impacts of climate change, particularly coastal erosion and the Town’s efforts to preserve open space while at the same time providing affordable housing. The Governor indicated that she looks forward to working with Van Scoyoc over the next two years and providing East Hampton the State’s assistance wherever possible.
STATE ASSEMBLYMAN FRED THIELE
“Peter has provided critical leadership on the important issues confronting the South Fork. He was a valued partner in establishing the groundbreaking South Fork Commuter Connection as a speedy alternative to crushing commuter traffic. He is to be commended for his local pandemic response, including getting the vaccine to those who needed it most.”
SUFFOLK COUNTY CHIEF EXECUTIVE STEVE BELLONE
“Peter has been an outstanding supervisor, working with us at the County on preventing the spread of COVID-19 and keeping the infection rates low in East Hampton, one of the lowest in the County and on Long Island. We have also worked with him on affordable housing and coastal resiliency and have found him to be hard working, responsive, and intelligent. We urge the voters of East Hampton to re-elect Peter on Tuesday, November 2nd.”
SUFFOLK COUNTY LEGISLATOR BRIDGET FLEMING
“His leadership in management of the pandemic, responding to the climate crisis with responsible solutions to coastal resiliency, renewable energy and water quality and addressing our affordable housing needs are hallmarks of his current term. I urge the voters of East Hampton to support him in his bid for reelection so that he can continue his good work in the Town of East Hampton.”
OCTOBER 18, 2021 — “Incumbent supervisor Peter K. Van Scoyoc, 62, a Democrat from Northwest Woods, has been a deft and effective manager in his two terms. He understands the need to move quickly but carefully in meeting urgent needs, as in shepherding a proposed landing in Wainscott for the cable from the planned South Fork Wind Farm, overcoming the loud and well-funded, but minority opposition of homeowners in the hamlet. There simply is no compelling reason to turn out an effective supervisor doing a commendable job. Newsday endorses Van Scoyoc.”
EAST HAMPTON PRESS
OCTOBER 28, 2021 — “When it comes to the town supervisor seat, only a contrarian for contrarian’s sake would oppose the reelection of Peter Van Scoyoc. Along with most members of the Town Board, Van Scoyoc led the community through the pandemic and was often found on the front lines — at testing and vaccine sites late into the early morning hours. He proved a present leader and, with the Town Board, kept the ball rolling, having jump-started several progressive and important initiatives, despite the pandemic.
Peter Van Scoyoc is running for reelection as Supervisor of East Hampton. In the past four years, Van Scoyoc has shown commitment to expanding renewable energy by supporting the construction of the first large-scale offshore wind farm in New York, the South Fork Wind Farm. Under his leadership, East Hampson installed solar panels on municipal buildings and decreased municipal operations energy demands.
Van Scoyoc helped improve water quality by establishing a water supply district in Wainscott. He also helped prevent the overdevelopment of East Hampton’s sole source aquifer, natural shorelines, woodlands, and wetlands.
