When the East Hampton Democratic Committee Members asked you for your vote last September, we asked you to support our collective belief that our community deserves town leaders who will carry on the traditions of our town while guiding our community through this every changing world. Leaders who have a vision for a healthy and sustainable future, and most importantly, leaders who hold themselves to a high standard of public service. You supported these guiding principles and elected us to represent you.
This June, on Tuesday the 25th,2019, there will be a Democratic Primary for town justice and our nine Trustee slate. When the Committee interviewed the several candidates for Justice, we were most impressed with Andrew. Here was an attorney who, after passing the bar exam, he chose human rights as his field of practice. He has presented before the International Court at the Hague. His background is strong in character, understanding of the law and of human rights. And he is a Democrat; in fact, he was elected by Democratic voters to be the committee member representing Election District 11.
Andrew is facing a primary challenge by the incumbent Republican town justice. Now make no mistake, she will be on the November ballot on her own Republican line as well as the Conservative, and the so-called Independence line but she wants to win our line too.
As you are witnessing, politics can bring out the best and the worst in people. When the competitive element of politics is the sole driving force you see the personal attacks for gain, scheming over substance, and a sudden appearance of the opposition candidates attempting to obstruct every proposal and vision of our elected Democrats without reason and without truth. However, we know what is at stake when ego is a driving force….our community and our future.
Again, the Primary Election is Tuesday, June 25, 2019. Please mark you calendars to vote.
We ask for your support for the fine candidates who earned our nomination. Our Town Trustee slate of nine candidates will protect our bays and waterways and continue to defend public beach access rights. Please get to know each of them as we did. Ask them questions and they will earn your vote.
Beginning with this Newsletter, we will introduce candidates for the June 25th Primary starting below with our Town Justice Candidate Andrew Strong.
The Committee is proud of our entire 2019 slate, and we are confident that we selected candidates who epitomize our guiding principles. I am proud of the platform of our party; it represents preservation, protection and vision.
Sincerely,
Cate Rogers
Chairwoman
