Recreation 

  • Montauk Playhouse
    • This state of the art aquatic center and multi-use cultural center was completed in August 2025 and was the result of a true public-private partnership with funding from the Town of East Hampton, the Montauk Playhouse Community Center, and New York State. 
  • Hon. Fred W. Thiele, Jr. Recreational Facility
    • This multi-purpose turf field opened in 2025 on Stephen Hands Path and is a versatile venue for soccer, lacrosse and football.
    • It was the venue for the 2025 East Hampton High School Homecoming football game.

Strengthening Community Services

  • In July 2024, the Town Board voted to authorize an emergency grant of $25,000 for the Eastville Community Historical Society to help pay for a new roof for its headquarters.
  • In September 2025, the Town Board approved an emergency grant of up to $75,000 to Project MOST in support of its Montauk Childcare program.
  • Human Services Department
    • Expanded Wellness 60+ and art offerings for seniors 
    • In 2024 Town staff served 20,000 meals in the center’s lunch room and prepared 15,000 meals for our Grab & Go program

Connectivity – Improving Wireless Coverage

  • A Town-wide upgrade to the emergency communications system was completed in 2022.
  • Camp Blue Bay Tower – 185-foot tower to house emergency communications and personal wireless equipment installed in 2023 greatly improved cell service in Springs
  • Nearly 200 “small cell” towers, each 42 feet tall, are being deployed across East Hampton Town, with over 150 slotted for Northwest Woods and Springs alone. Most are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025.

Public and Road Safety

  • A roundabout at Long Lane, Stephen Hand’s Path, and Two Holes of Water was completed in May 2025 to streamline traffic and reduce the potential for accidents at this busy intersection. 
  • Opened the Stony Brook Medicine East Hampton Satellite Emergency Department in Spring 2025.  This state-of-the-art 22,000-square-foot facility provides vital emergency care and health services to residents and will significantly reduce ambulance transport times. 
  • The Town obtained emergency dredging of the Montauk Inlet from the Army Core Of Engineers that was completed in March 2025.
  • In 2024, the Town hired the greatest number of lifeguards ever for a season (140+) ensuring safety at public bathing beaches with well-trained lifeguards.
    • The annual Nipper and Junior Lifeguard programs continue to teach young people water safety and train the next generation of lifeguards.
  • August 2025 – The Town collaborated with NYS on the $2.2 million grant for Napeague and Hither Hills State Park to combat southern pine beetle devastation.
  • The Town reinstated the Emergency Preparedness Committee in 2024. The committee’s goal is to prepare the Town of East Hampton for future potential emergencies/threats.
  • The Citizen Police Academy was reintroduced in 2025  after more than two decades to build stronger bonds between our police force and the community they serve.

Modernization and Communication at Town Hall

  • The current administration led by Supervisor Burke-Gonzalez has
    • Established the position of Town Administrator to streamline internal operations
    • Established the position of Public Information Officer to transform how we communicate with residents via frequent press releases, a robust social media presence and a quarterly newsletter.
    • Established the position of Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator to focus on researching, applying for, and administering grants
    • Restructured the Town Attorney’s office
    • Increased the opportunity for public participation by re-introducing night meetings and one work session each month at the Montauk Library
    • Forged relationships with our government partners at every level—federal, state, county, and village
    • Secured robust state investment
    • Launched OpenGov in April 2025 to increase efficiency
    • Maintained Aaa bond rating underscoring our exceptional financial health
