Ian Calder-Piedmonte for Town Board

Ian was born and raised on a farm in Michigan.  He studied philosophy at Cornell where he met his future business partner, Alex Balsam.  Shortly after college, he moved to East Hampton where he helped Alex build Balsam Farms into a successful vegetable farm and market with deep community connections.  Ian is grateful for the opportunity to farm in East Hampton and continue in its rich agricultural tradition.

Ian was appointed to the Planning Board in 2012 where he dealt with a variety of issues facing the Town.  During his 12 years serving on the Planning Board, he demonstrated a fair approach and the ability to work well with colleagues, applicants and the community as a whole.

In January of 2024, Ian was appointed to the East Hampton Town Board to fill the seat previously held by Kathee Burke-Gonzalez when she was elected Supervisor. Ian loves the challenge of being on the Town Board because it gives him an opportunity to talk through issues from all perspectives and find solutions.  If re-elected,he will continue to use and draft laws in good faith to protect our environment and community, support local businesses and make East Hampton an easier place for our year-round residents to live.

Ian lives in Springs with his partner, Amanda Merrow, co-founder of Amber Waves.
